Camping in the Smokies
Winter is almost gone and it is time to hit the campground at Elkmont. Sites can not be reserved for this event so it is on a first come, first served basis for acquiring a your site. This is the opening day of the camping season at Elkmont so the little store there in the campground may not be open yet. Get your ice and firewood before you pull in just to be safe! We will come up with the area we will try to go into as it draws nearer. This is going to be a relaxing weekend in the Park with no real major hikes planned, maybe just a nice stroll down the Cucumber Gap loop trail. This is a very thinly veiled excuse to eat a lot of food and hang out in the Smokies and a chance to get the kinks out of our new stoves, lanterns and tents. If you are not sure of some of your older gear just bring it with you and we will do some minor repairs and safety checks for you before you fire it up and possibly explode yourself! As always it is about the food or the special treats to eat, so bake up a cheesecake or some brownies and everybody will do their best to consume it all! I will have my Lodge pots to turn out some kind of yummy goodies also so bring your appetites with you.
